Your Questions, Answered

  • Traditional children’s illustrations created the old fashioned way - with coloured pencils, gouache, acrylic and anything I can get my hands on!

The slight imperfections and child-like rendering lend themselves beautifully to the picture book style.

  • I love to blend different mediums together to create wonderful illustrations, laced with texture and details.

I usually create my characters in coloured pencils. I build them up by layers upon layers of thin coloured pencil - this enables me to achieve a semi-realism look (such as fur) but also helps me to create extra-fine details.

I paint my background elements in gouache, acrylic, watercolour and Neo-colour crayons. I love to use my signature style of pointillism for any trees or bushes.

  • Each project varies in pricing - but I always use a pricing structure from The Association of Illustrators - so you can rest assured that you are being quoted a fair and honest fee.

  • I ask you to check out some client testimonials at www.reedsy.com/nicholas-child

I do not like to brag about my creative being!
